Evaluation: Question Three

What kind of Media Institution might distribute your Media Product and why?

From the research I have gathered the Institution that may produce my Music Magazine is the Bauer Media Group.

The Bauer publishing company publish over 300 magazines in 16 different countries worldwide. The magazine I've chosen to study (with a similar genre), as part of my research for this project was Kerrang! which the Bauer Group publishes. Although Kerrang! is now the UK's number one selling weekly rock magazine, it started off as a one off issue and grew to become what it is today. This shows that the group have been willing to take greater chances than this, and have successfully profited out of it.

This group may be looking for something new that my magazine could offer. It offers a new approach to music and would appeal to a wide new audience. My magazine would appeal to both a large alternative group of Teenagers and teenage and young adult, budding Musicians. My products unique niche means that it would not be a competitor for their existing products such as Kerrang!, even though it is of a similar genre, it offers a very different content. Kerrang! offer well known rock artists, whereas my product offers brand new artists, unsigned and newly signed, up and coming artists.  As well as this, my product would offer a large income to the company on advertising space. This could be heavy linked to the personal advertisement of the artists featured in my magazine, small venues to help aid larger discovery and even brands and niche clothing products such as Attitude clothing co.

Although the Bauer group publish over 300 magazines, there are only four music magazines that are published by Bauer:
  • Kerrang!
  • Q
  • Mojo
  • Empire
Therefore, there is a gap in the market for a magazine like mine.
